Working with Jason on this commission was a complete delight. From our first conversations about the possibility of doing a portrait together, Jason invited a sense of friendliness, light and most of all, complete openness, to whatever possibility would emerge before us.
Early in the process, Jason shared his vision of painting me in gold, and I was immediately a big YES to the project. Aside from loving gold as a color, I loved the idea of creating something different and uniquely resonant to me. The photoshoot experience was unexpectedly emotional, and true to form, Jason held a container of welcoming and accepting space. Rather than a photoshoot, my session with Jason felt like a journey through deep sadness, sorrow, joy, hope and creative energy, while he and his camera masterfully witnessed it all. I felt held, accepted, and at the end, peaceful. This experience of accompanied vulnerability lent itself to so much trust, that I felt myself let go of the outcome of how the end product would be.
Jason stayed connected with me throughout the creation process, checking in, and clearly contracting on what worked for both of us, but I did not see the portrait in process at all until it was delivered. I ADORE IT. The gold by itself is fabulous, but the glitter, which is subtle and full of meaning in its own right, takes it to a different level of both playful and exquisite. Jason’s attention captured an unveiled expression that hints at a core part of my being, and I think the ability to do that alone is a testament of his insight, talent, and the knowing of his own inner depths. Thank you so much, Jason. 💛
